Are you a young graduate national of a European Union Member State or of the People's Republic of China interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in China?

What we offer?

A traineeship of up to 6 months, starting as from 15 October 2019 within one of the following Sections of the EU Delegation to China:

Political Section Acronym: POL

Press and Information Sector Acronym: P&I

Trade and Investment Section Acronym: TRADE

Agricultural Section Acronym: AGRI

Communication Networks, Content and Technology section Acronym: CNCT

Science, Technology Section Acronym: RTD

Environment Section Acronym: ENV

Economic & Finance Section Acronym: ECFIN

Development & Cooperation Section Acronym: DEVCO


Main tasks:

●   analysis of official, academic and other sources on Chinese policy and EU-China relations;

   assistance in liaising with the different Chinese stakeholders in the framework of the relevant files for the assigned Section;

   reporting on developments of significance to EU external policies in in specific sectors;

   draft briefings on the assigned Section's matters whenever required;

   preparation and coordination of high level visits, missions, seminars and conferences that the assigned Section is responsible for.

Please state, in order of priority, the sections you wish to apply for in both your motivation letter and in the subject of your e-mail. You can indicate a maximum of three (3) preferences. Please use relevant acronyms in the following format. The title of your e-mail message shall have the following sequence: "FAMILY NAME – NAME – (for example) POL/P&I/ENV". This will be understood as prioritizing as follows: 1. Political; 2. Press and Information; 3. Environment.


Important information

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant of 1.100 € to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.

If an expatriate candidate cannot obtain an appropriate Chinese visa for the planned period of the traineeship, then the actual traineeship period will be shortened up to the maximum period of stay he/she is entitled to according to his/her Chinese visa.
