The National Theatre of Bucharest in Beijing: a mastery of the classical theatrical art with a modern touch

The „I. L. Caragiale” National Theatre of Bucharest” (TNB) attended the 8th Edition of the China International Theatre Festival, which runs from the 22nd of June until the 8th of July.

The Romanian actors performed with exceptional skills “The Tempest” by William Shakespeare,  put on stage in the uniquely-inspired and modern interpretation of the Bulgarian director Alexander Morfov.

The main character – Prospero, the Duke of Milan - was performed by the great Romanian actor Ion Caramitru – also the TNB’s general manager – who conferred strong emotional accents to a more than 400 years old play, drawing warm and vivid reactions from the Chinese audience. The unique main actors’ performance was supported by the exceptional interpretation of an impressive artistic team composed of many generations of the Romanian Theatre, who once again confirmed to the Chinese audience the level of excellence defining the Romanian theatrical art.

The performance was attended by H.E. Mr. Basil Vasilică Constantinescu, the Romanian Ambassador to Beijing – together with a team of the Embassy - having his Bulgarian counterpart – H.E. Mr. Grigor Porozhanov - as  the Guest of Honor, a double diplomatic presence that sealed the excellent bilateral cooperation between Romania and Bulgaria including in the artistic and cultural fields.

„The Tempest” by the TNB had three performances, between the 22nd and the 24th of June, on the stage of the Beijing’s Capital Hill.
